More Details
- Summary:
- From 1947 to 1967 the British government, in collaboration with churches and charities, came up with a secret plan to relieve the problem of overcrowded children's homes. Thousands of the children were shipped to Australia where, they were told, they would be adopted. Rather than being placed with families, the children were taken to institutions run by the Christian Brothers where they were used as laborers, given inadequate food, and subjected to physical and sexual abuse. Now adults, many of the children have discovered that they were not really orphans but had families who were not able to support them. Margaret Humphreys, an English social worker has founded, The Child Migrant Trust to help them find their parents and their past.
