Summary:

The Israeli-occupied portion of Lebanon, established in 1978 as a buffer zone to protect northern Israel, has become the scene of bloody conflict, with random bombings by the Hezbollah, Islamic guerrillas largely controlled by Syria. The Israeli Government has decided to withdraw its soldiers by July, with little hope for peace in the area and an uncertain future for their Lebanese allies.
