More Details
- Summary:
- A report on Bitcoin, the virtual currency created in the 2000s that has seen massive fluctuations in value over the years, but whose success has led to the growth of the cryptocurrency industry. Bitcoin was created by a still unknown student who believed in creating a peer-to-peer network over which money could be exchanged internationally. Without the need for a big bank or money transfer company, this had the potential to revolutionize the way money changes hands worldwide. Some of Bitcoin's earliest investors tell their stories of a meteoric rise and subsequent crash as they rode the Bitcoin rollercoaster. Includes interviews with Charlie Shrem, founder of BitInstant; Neha Narula, director of the Digital Currency Initiative at the MIT Media Lab; Laszlo Hanyecz, who made what is believed to be the first real-world transaction involving cryptocurrency; Marco Streng, the CEO of Genesis Mining; and Lael Brainard, one of the governors of the Federal Reserve.
