Summary:
- "With its organic touch, Soulive shows the influence of War and Living Color, the heralds of American black rock. Captured on the stage of the Brooklyn Bowl, this concert of the electric tribe sounds in tune, with its long jams punctuated by breaks on Hammond organ and drums. Programmed in residency mode, the present concert is devoted to house repertoire (the group has a vast repertoire including a complete album of Beatles covers...) but also and above all to cartes blanches addressed to musicians close to them. This is particularly the case of Questlove from The Roots, always fond of encounters and which recycles the repertoire of James Brown's funky period here; Or even Ivan Neville, a member of the Louisiana dynasty of the Neville Brothers and author of a superb version of ""If You Want Me To Stay"" by Sly And The Family Stone. Carried by the Shady Horns, a line up that rivals the best groups of the 70's, this Soulive set ultimately covers more than a century of African-American music. A sequence that is coherent and without blinders, and that we can easily recommend to fans of the genre. Vincent Caffiaux".
