- Summary:
- "This beautiful concert gives itself to the spirit of clubbing in the 60s, with musicians who played in formations with Mingus, Coltrane, Blakey and Ellington, who only chose bassists that played with flexibility and power (Jimmy Woode would five years by his side). They find their place within a repertoire that is representative of the time: Milestones, Walkin', Straight No Chaser - knowing how to add a pinch of madness here, lyricism or seduction there (the ridiculous charm of ""All Blues"" sung by the sax of Pony Poindexter is a good example). Also, the trumpet player Ted Curson reveals his sense of melodic complexity as Booker Ervin unrolls a powerful sound over almost modal scales. There is elegance to be found in the playing of pianist Kenny Drew and flautist Nathan Davis, who is as lyrical as ever when he improvises on his favorite theme ""Yesterdays."" Philippe Lesage".
