Summary:
- "This concert by the Incognito collective opens with brass riffs that eventually give way to the vibrations of a scorching funk carried by the three singers' emotionally charged voices alongside a killer rhythm section. The stage is set for the accents of great black music, infused by an ideal mix of acid jazz, funk and soul with a few Latin and Caribbean colours added for good measure. It is festive musical entertainment without pretension and with a good deal of talent and elegance. The audience responds exactly how they should: through dance and by having fun. Incognito is a collective with variable geometry that was formed in England in 1981. Their success in the 1990s came by signing on the Talkin' Loud label, led by Gilles Peterson. A real melting pot, the collective comprises: the leader Bluey, from Mauritius, a Filipino percussionist, an Italian drummer, and Sri Lankan, Jamaican, and Anglo-Polish singers (not to mention extra Portuguese, Scottish and, of course, English components). None of the members has the status of a soloist, but all of them are ""big names"" who fit the mould with obvious pleasure, all the more so as each one has their own minute of full exposure during an improvisation session. The particularly expressive singers go seamlessly from being soloists to being choristers without a moment notice throughout. **Philippe Lesage**".
