Summary:
- "This concert taken from the 1998 Jazzopen Festival Stuttgart features two back to back performances by the Nils Landgren Funk Unit and Bootsy Collins. In the first section, everything is geared towards funk. Magnum Coltrane Price props up the groove with his electric bass slap, blending with Harald Svensson's keyboard riffs that continually refresh the musical dialogue. Meanwhile, Henrik Jansson's guitar cuts through the sound and brass themes enliven the ensemble at key intervals. Nils Landgren's playing style exudes modernity, a notion encapsulated by the bright red color of his distinctive trombone. Signals supplied by the leader keep the groove rotating forward as we acclimatise to its rhythms. This atmosphere shifts on the 9th minute when the bassist Bootsy Collins rolls out his explosive 1997 Fresh Outta 'P' University album, released a year earlier. Each musician's look compliments their band leader. He will go on to be part of P-Funk (Parliament and Funkadelic funk references of the 70s) later on in his impressive career. Floriane Esnault".
