- Summary:
- "Michel Petrucciani, a pianist with multiple collaborations (with Aldo Romano, Charles Lloyd, and Lee Konitz) is unquestionably one of the few French jazz pianists to have had such international fame; he spent a large part of his career in the United States. As soon as he arrived on stage and without even taking the time to set the tempo, Michel Petrucciani seized the piano, which he immediately dominated, and began his discourse with his complete mastery of swing and precisely struck nuances. The group's obvious cohesion is almost immediate. The pianist, totally imbued with his music, guides us through his story punctuated by Anthony Jackson's bass march (note the use of his six-string contrabass guitar, a six-string electric bass that he masters better than anyone, as he created it). Petrucciani's compositions follow one after the other: ""Little Peace in C,"" ""Brazilian Like,"" ""Chloe Meets Gershwin,"" ""September Second."" But that doesn't prevent the pianist from slipping in standards like ""So What,"" in which he offers us an impressive solo delivered on the layers and arrangements of Steve Gadd's drum set.
