Summary:

"Apart from being one of the most important documents in late Twentieth-Century jazz, Stan Getz: The Final Recording provides the opportunity to reflect on one of the saxophone's most eminent and enduring careers. The film marks his final public outing, and the last blast of one of the richest, fullest and most revered tones to ever escape from a horn. It came at a time in Getz's life where he was battling cancer through a Chinese macrobiotic diet, whilst touring Europe earnestly in support of his most recent album, Apasionado. Joining him on stage are a rhythm section comprised of bassist Alex Blake and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. Together, they lay down the groundwork for Kenny Barron and Getz to lift each other into glorious, giddy flights of feeling. On synths we have Eddie del Barrio and Frank Zottoli, whose texturing enriches the sound, especially on Getz's newer pieces. Eslewhere the sextet delivers repertoire favorites including ""Seven Steps to Heaven,"" ""On a Slow Boat to China,"" What is this Thing Called Love?"" with a poise and flair that demonstrates their mastery.
