Summary:

Voguing: The Message traces the roots of this gay, black and Latino dance form, which appropriates and plays with poses and images from mainstream fashion. Footage from voguing competitions demonstrate their parody of fashion shows and how contestants are rated on the basis of movement, appearance and costume. A pre-Madonna primer, the documentary raises questions about race, sex, subcultural style and appropriation.
