Summary:
- Maria Tallchief and her sister Marjorie came from the Osage Nation in Oklahoma, and as children trained as both pianists and dancers. Marjorie began a ballet career in Europe, and Maria became America's first home-grown prima ballerina. As her career flourished, her partnership with George Balanchine coincided with the founding of the New York City Ballet, and of a new style of dance and dancer. This documentary, using interviews and archival dance footage, looks at her life and career, at how her heritage informed her dancing, and at what it means to be "a Balanchine dancer."
