More Details
- Summary:
- "The Orphan Film Symposium is a biennial gathering of scholars, archivists, media artists, curators, preservationists, librarians, collectors, distributors, documentarians, students, researchers, musicians, and others devoted to saving, studying, and screening all manner of neglected moving image artifacts. Since 1999, the enterprise has grown into a year-round research and preservation of an eclectic array of rediscovered films and videos. This DVD sampler of orphan films was produced exclusively for those participating in the 7th Orphan Film Symposium [on April 7-10], 2010. The eleven titles come from the libraries of the two institutions that have hosted and organized Orphans 1 through 7, the University of South Carolina and New York University. They represent some of the many categories of images that fall under the rubric of 'orphan film': newsreels, outtakes, sponsored films, documentary fragments, silent and public domain works, educational and advocacy films, raw footage, appropriated video, and home movies."--Container.
