- Summary:
- What do rulers do? What are their relationships with their own elite, commoners and each other? How do they use force, wealth and symbols to reinforce their positions and vie for advantages? The focus of this program is the complex political arrangements of ancient civilization and the basic functions of those systems. Looks at excavations in Tenotichtlan, Mexico, and Copan and Dos Pilas, Honduras, which indicate how unity in Aztec government brought power and expansion while the individuality of the Mayan kingdoms prevented this kind of development.
