Summary:
- Dialogue is an award-winning weekly radio program that explores the world of ideas through weekly, half-hour conversations with renowned public figures, scholars, journalists, and authors.
The revolutionary war was a cruel irony for slaves. The goal of national independence and liberty excluded them; even though many served as American soldiers. To gain their freedom many others opted to serve the British Crown. Historian Schama describes the fate of these Black Loyalists in his new book.
Patrick Tyler served in capitals as distant as Moscow, Beijing and Cairo in his 30 year journalistic career. He also has extensive experience in covering the U.S. Congress, Pentagon and White House. In this conversation he brings his considerable international background to bear in his analysis of American policy toward the Middle East as U.S. Presidents have developed them since the mid-20th century.
