Summary:

In 1915 a group of Mexican banditos raided the McAllen Ranch, one of the largest in South Texas. The following day several Texas Rangers supposedly arrived and eliminated the perpetrators. However, this incident as reported in the official records of the Texas Rangers does not reveal the entire story. Roland Warnock, a 19-year old cowboy who worked on the neighboring Guadalupe Ranch near present-day Edinburg, witnessed two of these killings when he saw Texas Rangers from Company D shoot two unarmed men in the back and leave their corpses by the side of the road. he witnessed a car of Texas Rangers approach the two victims and fire upon them with no provocation. the occupants of the car from which the shots were fired included Texas Ranger captain Henry L. Ransom, Paul West, and driver W. W. Bill Sterling. The two innocent victims of these shootings were Jesus Bazan and his son-in-law Antonio Longoria, local Mexican American residents. Two days following these shootings, Roland Warnock's father, Frank G. Warnock, was gunned down in cold blood in the streets of Mission, Texas by W. W. Bill Sterling and his brother Ed. The producer and director of this documentary, Kirby F. Warnock, also the grandson of Roland Warnock, interviewed his grandfather in 1974 as to these incidents and recorded this interview on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Portions of this 1974 interview of his grandfather, Roland Warnock, are included within this documentary. The effects of these killings by the Texas Rangers are still being felt today in South Texas and have served to perpetuate distrust between Mexican Americans and the Texas Rangers and to continue friction between Hispanics and Anglos in Texas.
