- Summary:
- Love story set in the 1920's in China's remote northwestern desert, this is the story of a young man who falls in love with the bride he has been hired to transport to her arranged marriage. She is kidnapped on the way to the wedding. Her intended husband dies while preparing to rescue her. The young man she loves does rescue the bride, but her mother-in-law says she must honor her agreement by "marrying" a wooden replica of the dead man, and remaining chaste.
