"The pension papers abstracted herein are on file in the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and represent the applications of the surviving Rangers or their widoes only. Since many of the old veterans had died prior to the enactment of the legislation, this is by no means a complete listing of all Rangers who served during the periods specified in the Acts. Also, the dates given do not necessarily represent their entire periods of service, but are the dates on which they based their pension claims. " --p. vii
