- Interviews with Sarah Tilghman Hughes concerning her experiences as a member of the Texas House of Representatives (1930-1935), as a judge of the Fourteenth District Court of Texas (1935-1961), and as U.S. district judge of the Northern District of Texas (1961-1982). The interviews also concern her unsuccessful congressional campaign (1956), her activities during the Kennedy-Johnson campaign (1960), her administration of the oath of office to Lyndon Johnson after the assassination of President Kennedy (1963), and her organizational work.

The Sarah T. Hughes Collection of papers from 1869 to 1983 is processed and available for viewing in the University Archives. Includes: biographical material, correspondence, minutes and proceedings, legal documents, financial documents, printed material, literary productions, scrapbooks, and photographic material relating to Sarah T. Hughes' personal life, organizational activities, political activities, and legal career. Also included are materials concerning her terms in the Texas Legislature (1930-1935), her tenure as judge of the 14th District Court of Texas (1935-1961), and as United States District Judge of the Northern District of Texas (1961-1981). The collection also contains a few items concerning Hughes' husband, attorney George Ernest Hughes.
